Breville Coffee Machine Cleaning Tips – Make it Look like New
So, you’ve been using the latest Breville Espresso Machine regularly and now it’s not performing the way it did when you bought it in the first place.
Right? Well, one of the reasons these coffee machines start degrading is carelessness. Homeowners don’t care enough about cleaning them regularly. So, what happens is that such machines could develop mold, bacterial, foul smell, and whatnot.
That said, it’s necessary to have a knowhow of Breville Coffee Machine cleaning tips, especially if you own one.
This guide revolves around cleaning a Breville Espresso Machine through and through. I’ll explain each cleaning method extensively so that you won’t face any issues throughout the process.
Note: You can apply these tips to other coffee maker brands as well. However, I’ve chosen Breville Coffee Maker as a standard as many homeowners use it in Australia.
Have a look without any further ado:
Daily Cleaning Tips:
Starting with the daily cleaning tips. Some pieces of the Espresso Machine need to be cleaned out on daily basis and I’ll cover them first.
For instance:
Cleaning Drip Tray:
Cleaning drip tray is as easy as eating a piece of cake.
Whenever it gets full, an “Empty Me” tab will rise upwards. Just slide it out and empty the drip tray thoroughly.
For improved cleaning, I’ll suggest you to scrub the drip tray with dishwashing soap and sponge. Rinse it thoroughly and let it dry before you put it back.
Cleaning the Steam Wand:
The tricky part is to clean the steam wand. It’s the place where you could expect most of the dirt and spoilable ingredients. Hence, it needs a thorough cleaning with care.
First of all,
Direct the tip of the steam wand towards the drip tray. Secondly, turn the dial on “Steam” and run the coffee machine so that it can clear out the tube after each use.
Next, turn off the machine and allow it to cool. Wipe down the steam wand with the help of a damp cloth and make sure that no dirt remains on it.
Contrary to that, if the steam wand of your Breville Espresso remains blocked, then get help from the Cleaning Tool included with the package. Before using it, make sure that you read the user manual carefully.
If all these tips don’t work out, then simply unscrew the tip of the steam wand with a screwdriver. Soak it in soapy water and let it rest overnight.
Rinse it in the morning and blow some air through the tip just to make sure that it’s working properly.
Either try the tips I’ve mentioned or you can take help from the video I’ve given below if you are still confused:
Cleaning Coffee Grinding Bin:
The small bucket where all the dumped beans go also needs enhanced cleaning.
Detach it from the machine and rinse it, dump all the dirt elsewhere and rinse it with hot water and soap on daily basis.
Cleaning Filter Basket:
Last but not the least, you should clean the filter basket regularly as oil buildup on the basket can compromise the quality of coffee.
Right after you drink your beverage, pop out the filter basket and scrub it with dishwashing liquid and sponge thoroughly.
Rinse it with hot water and let it dry before you put it back into the machine.
That’s all with daily cleaning tips. I’ll also recommend cleaning the outer side of Espresso with a damp cloth.
This way it will maintain its shine and will look like you’ve just bought it.
Let’s now get back to the serious business, i.e., “How to clean Breville Coffee Machine every month?”
Stay Tuned!
Monthly Breville Coffee Machine Cleaning Tips:
The Espresso Machine you own needs to be cleaned regularly so that you can keep enjoying the same taste and flavor.
However, you need to take care of it every once in a while and that’s when you have to clean its important parts.
Let’s take a look at some of the pieces that you should clean after few weeks:
Cleaning the Brewing Head or Portafilter:
Simply run water through the machine while keeping portafilter intact. It will remove most of the leftovers easily.
Well, if it doesn’t work out with the water running mechanism, then follow the tips mentioned below:
First off, place the filter directly into the portafilter and run water through it.
If clogging remains same, then you can use a pin cleaning tool to remove dirt from filter holes. Use a pin cleaning tool with due care or it will damage the filter.
In the end, I’d recommend that you should maintain the cleanliness of all the filters every once in a while to enjoy fresh coffee and espresso without any hassle.
Water Filter:
The Breville Coffee Machine you’ve got also has a water filter that needs proper cleaning after every month.
Simply remove it from the filter holder and soak it in soapy water for about 5 minutes.
Rinse it with warm water and reassemble it again with precaution.
Make sure that you set the dial button to two months. This way, you won’t have to clean the water filter for two months.
Cleaning the Bean Grinder:
If you’ve purchased a separate bean and burr grinder for your Breville Espresso Machine, then you should also clean them once in a while.
I’ve already shared a guide on how to clean a coffee bean grinder properly. So, check it out if you want this part of the machine to work efficiently.
Run Clean Up Cycle:
Last but not the least, your Breville Espresso Maker can also clean itself and you should know some important steps for the self-cleaning process.
As soon as the machine gives the “Clean Me” signal, you should know that it’s time to run the cleaning cycle.
- You have to run an empty cycle first so that most of the residue could flush out with ease.
- When done, adjust a one cup filter into the portafilter and add the cleaning disc into the machine.
- Put Breville coffee machine cleaning tablets right in the middle of the cleaning disc and attach the unit with the group head.
- Press and hold the one and two cups Power button until the Clean Me light flashes. It would mean that the cleaning cycle has started.
- Let the cleaning cycle run thoroughly and wait for the backflow cycles to get completed. A small pint of water will come out from the machine, which you can clean with a damp cloth.
- In the end, run an empty cycle yet again to make sure that the machine has cleansed itself properly.
The following video will also guide you better on running a complete cleaning cycle:
That’s all about cleaning the Breville coffee machine on monthly basis.
